Description
Broadwater is believed to date from the 17th Century with much of the structure thought to date from the early 18th Century. Constructed of white and red brick under a mainly peg tiled and slate roof, it is listed Grade II of Historic or Architectural Interest. The house has numerous period features that include deep sash windows with shutters, well proportioned reception rooms, working fireplaces, and a geometric curving staircase lit by an octagonal lantern. A more recent addition provides a library/sitting room in full keeping with the period architecture of the house. In all the house is in exceptional decorative order.
To the north of the property and accessed via a separate drive from the front entrance is a cobbled three sided courtyard with a two bedroom coach house, garaging, stabling and outbuildings. Also within the grounds are further useful outbuildings including a separate secluded period barn adjacent to the River Ore. The gardens and grounds to Broadwater are of an extremely high standard and include formally laid out gardens, ponds, parkland, woodland, paddocks, meadows and a small vineyard which can produce upwards of 250 bottles of wine per year.
